What is Radon?

Radon is a radioactive noble gas. This gas is part of a chain of substances that starts with the element uranium and ends with stable lead. Radon gas is found in many soil/rock types and is constantly renewed. Too much radon can be dissolved with a radon suction.

The level of the radon gas is counted in the unit becquerel/m3, abbreviated Bq/m3 and the limit value for public health nuisance is in Sweden set at 200 Bq/m3.

Health-damaging amounts of radon gas you get into the house in mainly three different ways. Through the water, the building material or from the ground directly and from here then through leaks in the house foundation. The main problems are not caused by the radon gas itself, but by the next stage in the chain – the radon daughters. These are formed very quickly after the gas has arrived and it means that the gas is converted into particle form. The daughters of radon have a tendency to sit on the dust grains that are always in a room. By inhalation, the radioactive particles will enter the lungs and become trapped in the lung tissue.

They disintegrate and emit radiation. Prolonged exposure to radon daughters may cause lung cancer. The risk is greater the higher the radon concentration. Do you have questions? Email us and we will help you. Email us and we'll help you.

Fan function

The fan and its function is the heart of a RADONSUG and is therefore extremely important. Fans behave differently, depending on the purpose for which they are built. Our fan adapts to the resistance. Different resistances depend on the material under the foundation. Some fans suck too much, so there is a risk of cold air being sucked under the foundation, which can lead to other serious problems. Fans must also not be a danger to children or animals. Our fan is powered by completely harmless 12 volts and draws energy at a cost of less than 140 SEK per year, at an electricity price of 2 SEK/kWh.

Other requirements we set for the fan are that it should be as quiet and visible as possible. The small size also means that the visible intervention is very small.

 Control measurement

After the radon suction unit has been installed, a control measurement should be carried out with a tracer film (see link on the first page). The trace film should be placed in the same place as in previous measurements. This is to be able to compare the results of the measure. It is also important that the measurement takes place under the same conditions as in everyday use and that it takes place in the period October-April.

Why do you get radon in the house?

Ground radon is the most common cause of elevated indoor values. For more than 20 years we have been specializing in solutions and ready-to-measure packages to ground radon.

The reason why radon gas enters the house is because the house is heated. Creating a warmer climate indoors than outdoors creates a negative pressure that draws in air from outside and also air from the ground under the house. If you also have an exhaust fan in the house, the negative pressure is further enhanced.

The greater the temperature difference between outside and inside - the greater the negative pressure created. The effect of this can be observed on a cold winter day when the cold outside air flows in through window frames, cracks and other leaks.

Common points where radon gas penetrates can be around sewage pipes, water pipes, electric cables that come through the base plate, dry cracks between wall and floor and clean cracks in the floor. All of these are easily sealed in our package attached gastight sealing compound.

Radon suction for house with basement or molded plate on land

The main purpose of the radon extractor is to create a larger negative pressure under the foundation slab than the one in the house. This is created by installing our radon vacuum. Here you also get the positive side effect that the radon extractor does as the name suggests, absorbing the radon gas in the vicinity and sending it out into the outside air where it is quickly diluted to harmless levels.

Our package includes everything needed, except tools. It contains, among other things, a 9 m gas-tight aluminum hose and a radon fan for outdoor installation to lower the elevated radiation values. The assembly is so simple that a handyman can do it on his own. Otherwise, a local craftsman can be hired. Assembly time is usually between 5 and 8 hours. The package only requires a standard 230 V electrical outlet.

Telephone support from us before, during and after the installation is included.
One year warranty against manufacturing defects included.

Placement

The fitting of the tubing into the concrete slab should not be closer to wall than about 1.5 meters.

The exhaust of the radon-containing soil air from the house foundation should be done in such a way that the radon gas does not find its way back into the house. The fan should be placed as far away from windows, vents and doors as possible.

Radon suction for house with crofter's foundation

Our package consists of a radon fan for outdoor installation and other necessary accessories. From the outdoor unit itself, a pipe is connected to the center of the torpedo base. The construction of the house, the volume and the radon concentration will determine whether one torpedo base kit is sufficient or whether several are needed. By creating an air flow and a small negative pressure under the floor itself, the radon is led via the fan into the outside air where it is quickly diluted to harmless levels. It is important that the floor between the foundation and the room is as tight as possible.

Our package includes everything needed except tools. It contains, among other things, a radon fan for outdoor installation and a 10 m long drainage hose to lower the elevated radiation values. The installation is so simple that you can normally do it yourself. Assembly time is usually between 3 and 5 hours. As the package is electrically powered by 12 volts, there is no need to hire an electrician.

Telephone support from us before, during and after the installation is included.
One year warranty against manufacturing defects included.

The exhaustion of the radon ground air from the house foundation should be done so that the radon gas does not find its way back into the house. The fan should be placed as far away from windows, valves and doors as possible.
